Dot size scales with fire radiative power.

Known limitations
  • Hot spots are sensor pixels, not fire perimeters; a detection locates a pixel footprint, not a flame front.
  • Polar-orbiting satellites revisit a point a few times per day; fires start and move between passes.
  • Cloud, smoke, and canopy can hide fires; small or cool fires can go undetected.
  • Gas flares, solar reflections, and hot industrial surfaces can produce false positives.
  • Perimeter and red-flag layers here are placeholders; production sources are NIFC and NWS.
  • This prototype is not an operational tool and must not inform evacuation or suppression decisions.
